Documentary Cinematography
Documentary cinematography
in Japan.
A documentary cinematographer based in Tokyo, filming across Japan for international brands, founders, artists and creatives. We follow the story instead of directing it.
Document rather than direct.
What We Follow
The story is already happening. We keep up with it.
A documentary day rarely follows a shot list. Plans shift, people arrive late, the light changes, and the most useful moment usually happens between the things that were scheduled. Our approach is to stay close enough to catch those moments instead of staging them back into place.
That means a small footprint, a lightweight kit, and a cinematographer who can move through a location without turning it into a film set.
- Creative journeys and the work behind a body of work
- Behind-the-scenes filming on location
- Conversations, meetings and collaborations
- Travel, environments and moving between places
- Work in progress — studios, workshops and worksites
- The unexpected moments in between
Capabilities
What we can bring to a production.
Filming is the core of it. The rest of these are available depending on what your production actually needs — tell us what you are planning and we will tell you honestly what is useful and what is not.
Documentary cinematography
Natural, observational, run-and-gun filming following one person or a small team through their project or journey.
Location support
Help with planning, locations, schedules and basic Japanese communication on the ground.
Transportation & logistics
Optional production transport and logistics — route planning, travel timing, equipment transport, parking and tolls.
Professional audio
Clean location sound for conversations, meetings and interviews, captured alongside the picture.
4K capture
A lightweight professional camera setup shooting in 4K, kept close to the subject so the production stays small.
Unedited footage delivery
Organized, unedited footage delivered by cloud storage or HDD/SSD — straight to your editor or post-production team.
Editing is not included. We deliver organized, unedited footage directly to the editor or post-production team you already work with — which is exactly what most international companies and creatives need.
